India

India is a vibrant country to visit, although it’s not for everyone. You’ll either love it or hate it. I’ve worked in many parts of India and visit at least once a year, but it always takes me a view days to adjust. The roads are particularly chaotic, and this makes getting around a bit more challenging than most countries. Often there are no pavements to walk on, and it’s not unusual to stumble across a cow in the middle of the path or even the highway. However, once you accept that this is just how it is, there are so many places worth exploring here.

India has 37 Unesco heritage sites and one of the most iconic buildings in the world, the Taj Mahal. It also has some fantastic food, especially in the south if your vegetarian. Everything is cheap to buy in India, mainly if you avoid eating in the 5-star establishments. However, you do have to take care in order not to get the dreaded Dehli belly. Always remember to eat freshly cooked food which is piping hot. Avoid buffets, salads and unpeeled fruit and this good help. You should of course only drink bottled water. Ice is also best avoided, including ice cream.

Of course, India is best known for its temples and mosques. With such a mix of religions, there’s usually several to see in each city. If your more of a beach person, check out this article on the best beaches as you’ll often find the local beach is polluted or packed with local stalls.

I promise there’ll be more in-depth articles on India to come soon.
